5 Mistakes That Are Killing Your Productivity
Reading time ≈ 2 mins
Most creators nowadays are putting up a show
They don't really know what they're doing. Especially the ones trying hard to balance their personal lives with being creators.
This is as a result of certain mistakes that cause them to be unproductive.
Let's go over them shall we?…
5 Mistakes That Are Killing Your Productivity
1. Excessive Learning:
When I first got into money twitter, I was obsessed with learning everything there was to know about marketing.
I read books, watched YouTube videos, listened to podcasts, read threads/articles/newsletters and even listened to every single twitter space on that topic.
This took up more than half of my day so I never had enough time to actually do the needle moving tasks.
I read the best books on direct response but never wrote a single sales page.
I learnt about email marketing but couldn't even create a list.
I was stuck in a dopamine loop and just feeding my brain with a 'sense' of accomplishment, even though I wasn't really doing anything.
I know for a fact that my old self isn't alone on this.
So if any of this sounds awfully familiar, you might need to do a hard reset on your learning routine.
2. Multi-tasking:
Being busy is NOT the same as being productive.
Don't create a to-do list of 50 tasks for the day. This will only make you less productive as you'll be tempted to take on two or even three tasks at the same time.
This will only divide your attention and will lower the chances of getting any real work done at the end of the day.
So instead of doing that, do this instead:
Identify your main goal of the week
Point out all you need to do to achieve that goal
Spread those tasks across the week
This way, you'll have only a few tasks to complete each day that will guarantee progress for you.
3. Selling Your Time:
Who doesn't like a few extra bucks am I right?
But you have to understand that there is something that's just as valuable (if not more valuable) than money. And that's time.
Don't accept offers outside your schedule.
This is a common mistake amongst many creators.
Why accept 5 ghostwriting gigs when you can barely fit writing your own threads in your schedule?
Protect your time and use it for more valuable things. Like finally launching that newsletter.
4. Zero Data Analysis:
There's only so much we can get from speculation.
Creating hypotheses is good practice. But relying on them for all of your expectations is just insanity.
Instead of guessing around what the answer to your questions could be, why not use accurate data?
Plus, it's so easy to get these in modern times.
For creators on twitter, you can use twitter analytics and the Black Magic app to track everything on twitter.
In summary, rely more on data so you can make correct moves in the future.
5. Stop Stacking Softwares (SSS):
Why have 7 apps for scheduling tweets?
Many people are fond of using way too many apps for their work all in the name of being productive.
Well, I hate to break it to you but that's the most unproductive thing you can do.
You wanna schedule tweets? Use only Hypefury
Wanna get feedback and analytics? Use the Black magic app
It's so easy to be engrossed in apps and softwares. But make sure you absolutely need them before you use them.
Actionable Guide 🌟
Like I said before, I was also a hot mess when it came to getting the right things done.
Until I applied these 3 productivity hacks to help me get more work done in less time:
3 Productivity hacks to get more work done in less time:
1. Find Your Sacred Hours:

Sacred Hour visual
The main reason why you can't get anything done is your lack of focus.
Block out time every day for deep work.
It can be just 2 hours a day or even 5 depending on the task at hand. But doing this will ensure you always have time to go deep into your flow state and produce excellent results.
Mine is about an hour an a half; from 4 am to 5:30 am before I have to go pray
Find yours and use it well.
2. Get an Accountability Partner:
There's nothing better than having a group of friends who support what you do.
But why not take it a step further?
Ask a close friend of yours—preferrably one that does what you do—to keep you accountable on certain tasks.
Or even better. Hire a PA to do that for you.
In short, get someone to keep you on track. That's it.
And finally…
3. Get Rid of Distractions:
What use is deepwork when you're still gonna be distracted?
Remove useless devices like your phone. And if your phone is what you use then put it on Do Not Disturb.
And this is not just exclusive to devices…
Friends, vehicle noises, air pollution (smoke and farts) can all distract you just as equally as a phone would.
So get yourself a room with no distractions in it and get into the flow.
Trust me, you won't regret it.
Hopefully you learnt something today.
