How To Remain Authentic as a Creator On Twitter
Hey friends. Welcome to the 5th issue of the Content Chest.
Today, I'll be talking about how to remain authentic and sticking to your style.
So without further ado, let's dive in.
Reading time ≈ 1 minute
The 3 main Obstacles preventing you from finding your voice
The problem with most people is that they try to niche down too quickly without stopping to think about other possibilities.
You see someone complain about generating content ideas, whereas he talks about Psychology but is so interested in Web development.
The main causes of this displacement of interest are just 3:
Listening to higher-ups
Consumption paralysis
Imposter syndrome
The Higher-ups:
Everyone has their own opinions about problems and solutions. Or in other words, everyone has their own way of solving problems and providing value.
Now here's the problem...
Novices listen too much to the advice of these higher-ups and make a fatal mistake.
They consume their opinions instead of their lessons.
They make the higher-ups' experiences question their entire belief system and all of their own opinions.
"The gurus can't be wrong, might as well listen to all they have to say".
Listen to the gurus, but be sure to know your stand and what YOU believe in.
Consumption Paralysis:
"The more you read, the smarter you become"
"Watch 50 videos, have at least 50 ideas"
Advice like these aren't normally bad. The only problem here is that you get confused when you have too much information about one topic.
You become paralysed...
You probably already have an answer to your question. But what you read in a book somewhere is saying something else.
Consume only what you need and forgo the rest for later (or never)
Imposter Syndrome:
By far the most problematic of this list.
Some creators suffer from this even as big accounts on Twitter.
But what is it anyway?
Imposter syndrome is the feeling of not being worthy of sharing your ideas in public.
It can be caused by fear of what others might think. Sometimes it can be caused by comparing yourself (at level 10) to someone else (at level 1000).
Whatever the reason might be, know that everyone has the right to share anything on social media (so long as it's not offensive or goes against the platforms rules).
If you're suffering from any of these these problems to be honest won't just fade away like nothing happened.
Here's what you can do yourself (and how I've been able to overcome all these challenges.
Adopt the Adventurer's Mindset:
Until you step into the unknown, you don’t know what you’re made of.
Let's call our adventure Levi...
Levi goes out looking for rare artifacts in different continents.
5 years ago, he had nothing to show for his work (cos he was still a newbie)
Now, he has an entire museum of statues, paintings, carvings and many more valuable objects.
He is now recognized by hundreds of thousands of people on social media.
He now makes a living by doing what he loves; Finding random stuff in random places.
How can I be like Levi?
Everyone has something that they love to talk about. It can be business strategies or even Wildlife.
Whatever it is, it's perfectly okay to pick a platform and share your knowledge with the world.
It might not amount to anything at the beginning.... many things begin to happen.
You'll make a ton of friends
You'll learn many lessons and have a ton of experience.
Then eventually, you'll be getting paid to do what you love.
Another lesson to learn from Levi's short story is that you shouldn't think about what you can gain immediately you start a business venture.
Think in years. Act in days
If you like, there's one more way I can help you build your brand on twitter.
