How to Become a Lovable Writer

Reading time ≈ 2 mins

I started writing online at the age of 12.

Back then, I mostly wrote about paranormal creatures and activities for the fun of it.

I had no idea that writing was a way to make money and I'm sure this was the case for many others as well during that time.

Now in the age of twitter, LinkedIn and blogs, writing online has become the next best thing.

But this has become a problem…

With 20 new digital writers emerging every week from a single country (made up fact) how are you supposed to be special if you're just joining the rat race?

Good news…it's very possible.

Here's what you need to do…

How to become a lovable writer in 5 steps

1. Find Your Interests

8 years ago I wrote about werewolves, Lycans, Wendigos, Vampires and anything along the line of supernatural fanfiction.

And I LOVED it…

It was so cool to share all I knew about it. When I wasn't online I'd trap my brother in the room with lores and urban legends (poor guy 😅)

That was a such an exciting venture that I could've continued before school got in the way.

For you it might be tech or crypto and investing. Or maybe it's animals and wildlife.

Whatever it is that you love talking about should be your main area of discussion in your content.

This is the secret to making content creation feel so natural.

2. Pick a Platform

As a writer, it can be so exciting to share your work that you become paralysed over the platform to share it on.

You think Medium will be the best option but you go ahead to create a blog on WordPress.

If you're going through this stage then just relax and do this instead…

“Write about your interests to people who want to read it”

Write what should not be forgotten

Isabel Allende

People are selfish.

So instead of just writing on any platform, make sure that what you're writing will be interesting to other people.

Your writing should do either of these 2 things:

  1. Solve problems in everyday life

  2. Give people some hope

If your writing can help people get through a problem or a hardship like a pandemic, you'll be recognized as an awesome writer.

So with that. 1) What problems can you solve or what form of hope can you give people through your writing? 2) Where do these people hang out so you can go and help them?

Answer those two questions and you have yourself a starting point.

3. Study Other Writers

There's nothing better than knowing what is already working in the market.

What do people in your field talk about? What types of posts are your competitors writing the most? What font style are they using? Times New Roman?

Ask a lot of questions like these and go ahead to find the answers.

This will give you a clearer picture of the type of posts you should/shouldn't be writing.

Study your competitors.

4. Connect with other writers

Just as you are passionate about what you write about, so are many others.

Find other cool writers with similar goals and are virtually on the same level as you on achieving them.

Talk to them about your plans and share ideas. Create a group of people who support you and your style of writing.

It's a lot easier to grow when you have a tribe of loyal fans supporting you every step of the way.

5. Gather attention

Back when I was writing about werewolves.

I had a group of about 100 members before it was deleted.

Here's how I got that many members (seeing as paranormal activities don't rank that high when it comes to in-demand topics. Plus, I was 12).

I talked about it—EVERYWHERE

In the comments section of other people's posts, in school to my friends, to my brothers, etc.

The more I spread the word, the more people seemed interested in what I had to say.

People could feel the energy I put into my writing so they helped me shared the word

“Abdulmalik, what's the difference between Lycans and werewolves?”

“How many weaknesses do vampires have?”

“Do you know how one can transform into a werewolf in real life?”

These were the types of questions I kept getting from a lot of people.

That means that at the time, I was seen as a leader worth following in the field of paranormal studies.

Same goes for you.

Talk about your interests all the time. People will begin to notice you and your work.

That's all for now.

I hope you enjoyed this letter and I hope to see you in the next one
