Get Back Your Mojo And Grow Your Brand

The Rebirth

It's 5 am on a Sunday morning.

I've had my coffee, did 10 push-ups (literally dying) and just took a nice long shower.

And now, I'm ready to write!!!

But I've not always been this hyped to write anything. In fact, I've been a total mess when it comes to getting in the zone for about a month now.

So what makes today so different?

Well it all began with an event that happened yesterday.

But before that….

Get Better at Sales & Marketing

My friend Paschal has a newsletter over at Substack.

He gives insanely short but super insightful marketing lessons (less than 300 characters per issue)

And he tells relatable stories too.

If this sounds like something you'd enjoy…

I lost 7-0 on aggregate in a football video game (PES 2016)

It was such a painful experience.

Not saying that I was so good that I couldn't lose a football match. But 7-0? C'mon.

After this embarrassing defeat, I decided to just listen to the creator science podcast by Jay Clouse.

I listened to the 1 hour long episode where he interviewed the famous author Austin Kleon (author of Steal Like An Artist)

Long story short… I was reminded of something.

No matter how worn out you are by the work you have to do. Does it really matter so long as you enjoy it?

And let me tell you if you didn't already know. I LOVE writing and teaching.

This is why I have a newsletter and my 1:1 consulting offer. The more I help, the happier I get. And so as a result, I'm making a BIG comeback on Twitter.

Starting with a one of a kind Giveaway.

An Audio series I will record explaining what it takes to write your way to financial freedom (the actual theme of this newsletter)

Let me know if this is something you'd like.

Anyway…

Austin tells us about how being a LIBRARIAN pushed him to write his first book “Newspaper blackout”.

That is to say that it doesn't matter what job you have or school you attend.

Sometimes as a writer, you need to use what you already have to create something different.

3 Things I Learnt From Austin Kleon On The Podcast:

Use your present situation as your unfair advantage

Like I said earlier. Austin was only a Librarian.

Yet he has sold over 1 million copies of his Trilogy; Steal Like An Artist, Show Your Work & Keep Going.

The sooner you stop whining about your job getting in the way of your creativity, the better.

Just Do You!

Your boss, friends & family and even your editors will have opinions about what you writ about.

Either way, just write it.

The business of writing deals with testing so the sooner you publish that tweet, the faster you can learn whether your idea sucks or not.

No Idea is original

Yes, imposter syndrome is a thing. I know.

You feel like you have no authority to say something because you don't think you're an expert at it.

Or even worse. You think you don't need to say it because someone else already has.

Crap.

Everyone has their own unique take on a certain topic and there are people out there that are hungry for yours. So give it to them.

Big Takeaways

  • Find joy in what you do, otherwise you'll burnout

  • My giveaway is coming. Make some noise about it

  • Having a job is cool

  • Use your present situation as your unfair advantage

  • Just do you, ignore the noise

  • No idea is original

And that'll be all for this week's issue.

Hope you learnt something from my rant and I hope to see you next Sunday.
