Journaling: Why this activity will make you a better writer each day

Reading time ≈ 2 mins

It's been 2 months since I started this exercise.

Since then, I've gotten better at writing and have more clarity on the type of creator I want to become.

What is this writing exercise?

It takes only 30 mins a day and doesn't need any fancy tools.

And it's journaling

Last week, I was thinking about this topic when it hit me that a lot of creators don't do this and so they don't know the benefits of it.

So here's how it's gonna be. I'm gonna list five benefits of journaling that should change your perspective.

5 Reasons Why Journaling Will Make You A Better Writer Each Day

1) Infinite Ideas:

When you write daily, eventually you'll have a bank of ideas.

Since I started journaling (2 months ago) I've written over 15,000+ words. Which means I don't have to struggle with coming up with content ideas. All I have to do is to visit my journal and I'm good to go.

2) Build Your Writing Muscle:

All veteran writers were once novices.

But after writing for many years, they've laid down legacies in form of books, newsletters, movie scripts and even obituaries.

After writing for so long, they've been able to build their expertise.

Yours doesn't need to take years.

30 days of journaling is enough is see insane growth in your writing.

3) Build in Private, Learn in Public:

This is the most important point so pay attention.

Many creators find it hard to build their projects in public. They find exposing their mistakes and flaws dreadful.

So here's a cool alternative…

Build your projects in private then document the process in your journal until you're comfortable to share your journey in public.

Do this and have your privacy while still giving people the chance of seeing what you've been working on.

4) Find Your Voice:

“A journal is your completely unaltered voice” – Lucy Davis

Writing on social media puts you in a position where you have to satisfy your audience's expectations. Which means you'll have to restrict your originality for your audience.

As time goes on, you'll learn to be more authentic on social media. And to make things easier, you'll need to write offline – away from other eyes.

5) Strengthen Your Memory:

Finding it hard to keep track of things? Get a journal.

Most times, it's better to write down your thoughts rather than keeping them in your head.

Summary:

All writers need a way to put down their thoughts, findings, ideas & opinions and milestones.

And to be honest, Journaling isn't the only way to do this.

Picture galleries, pin boards and even libraries can help with that.

But so far, journaling covers all of these and even more.

See you next Sunday.
